Welcome to the Year of the Snake

fire water snakeThe real start of the Snake Year lunar cycle began February 4, 2013 at midnight. The official Lunar first of the year falls on February 10th this year and that is when Chinese New Year celebrations begin; they last until February 25th. From now until February 25th we have an opportunity to focus, on a daily basis, on resetting our energy and spirit. These days are very significant on a metaphysical level.

In this Snake year, in which Fire element and Water element clash, it will be smart to play it safe professionally and financially. Avoid tackling ongoing issues or tough negotiations if possible. Postpone attacking issues head-on as the energies this year will tend towards clashes rather than resolutions.

Even positive signs like the current rise in stock market prices might turn sharply negative at any moment, so be a cautious investor. In general, be prepared for eventualities by keeping financial liquidity and even household emergency supplies as the fire/water clash of this year will also exacerbate the weather extremes: fires and flooding associated with earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes and more can be expected.

Be disciplined in setting up auspiciousness during this challenging clash of elements Snake year by choosing thoughts and actions that will further positive mood in yourself and those around you. This is most important between today, February 4th through February 18th. Set the tone for the rest of the year by choosing happiness. To the greatest extent possible avoid thinking of or dealing with people or events that upset you. Tap into the spiritual practice (reading spiritual and inspiring texts) or relaxing physical activities (meditation, Tai Chi, Chi Gong exercise) in this period.

Spirituality and faith can protect us from the negative effects of phenomena we cannot control. Improve the Feng Shui around you by adapting suggestions from my website/blogs to elevate the positive chi that can help us come through challenges safely. Take all these positive actions as maintaining clarity and calmness that will predispose us to better outcomes in all our endeavors.

The Tail of the Dragon (End of Dragon Year)

koi pond feng shui_smallEveryone I know was very glad to see 2012 end. But the end of the calendar year does not mean an end to the upheavals in weather, meteoric conditions, political strife, violence and shocks. The Dragon’s tail (end of the Dragon year) is barbed and can be brutal.

Meantime, the beginning of the Snake year (the Snake’s Head) zig zags and can change direction like lightning. This Snake year will pit fire against water – and we may feel the water in the pot growing agitated and hot this year. In other words, it is not going to be a respite from last year’s unsettled and unsettling conditions.

The Year of the Dragon doesn’t officially end until February 4, 2013 at 12:03am (same time in every time zone). During this transitionary period it is wise to be cautious. If possible build your reserves – and I mean that in every possible way: financially, personal energy, physically and even emergency supplies or other precautionary measures.

Ideally you are in a position to take some extra time now to rest and reflect. If not and your schedule is hectic, it is even more important to do so. From now until February 4th even the busiest must (for physical health) create a schedule in which every day you take at least 15 minutes to regulate your breathing at a calm, slow pace. Just after waking or before retiring at night are each good times for this. While being aware of the breath, notice that “time” is flow. One day a week spend an hour to take a walk in a park, look at a tree or even to calmly plan your schedule for the coming week in order to reduce stress.

These practices are healing to the mind and can help fight fatigue and anxiety that result from our own busy over-committed lives and the strife in the world.

In general now, do not over-commit. Base your decisions, wherever possible on having excess reserves in terms of financial and time conditions.

Preparing for Your New Year

Choose and energize your prayer beads for the New Year.

Choose and energize your prayer beads for the New Year.

As the days get shorter now in the Northern hemisphere heading towards the Winter Solstice it is a perfect time to recenter ourselves. Your luck and happiness in the New Year will depend on your ability to create and maintain a positive outlook. As we go within we realize the source of our happiness is not in the material objects around us, or even in the connection with our friends and family – but in our own attitudes, minds and hearts. The solstice is a powerful time to fine-tune our focus, purge our selfishness and find our gratitude and humility for the blessings that surround us. Make sure to get out in nature during daylight hours – if possible by woods or water to get an important solar charge and clear any mind-clutter. This is the best way to reduce fears and negative thinking we can get caught up in.

In this important week, find a beautiful river stone that easily fits in the palm of your hand, or a set of prayer beads. Rinse in cool water and leave them in a sunny window for a day to cleanse their energy and give them a solar charge. Now leave them by your desk and make sure to handle them on a daily basis while doing a brief positive-thinking meditation to begin to charge them with positivity for your New Year.

I will be giving more Feng Shui suggestions for your New Year in the next few posts.

Year of the Water Dragon 2012 Feng Shui Energy Tips

These energy tips are for all, but especially for the people of my beloved city, New York. As the song goes “if I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere…” New York City attracts the most driven and high-spirited people from around the country and the world trying to achieve their highest aspirations. For this reason, a lot of the people here feel great pressure all the time and are unable to relax or recharge as easily.

The Year of the (Water) Dragon that begins February 4, 2012 is a critical inflection point in the transitional cycle of humanity. So especially at this time, anyone who is serious about bouncing back or achieving their goals should tap into Chinese Five Elements Feng Shui energy techniques to create inner balance that can elevate positive energy and vibration, thereby opening the way to achievement of one’s higher goals.

If you were born in the year of the Hare or Dog, you need to be more careful to avoid accidents –  be extra cautious of any risky physical activities.  Any big moves that affect your financial portfolio should be discussed with wise counsel while applying a conservative attitude.

Things to do starting now and continuing through February 4th 2012:

  • Visit a spiritual place to reflect and set new goals in the Lunar New Year with a grateful heart, regardless of your current circumstances.  A humble and peaceful heart can connect to the Divine while a frightened or angry heart cannot – set yourself on the correct path.
  • Do some charity work and donation, especially during the Lunar New Year period – open the channel for the flow of prosperity.
  • Watch a Lunar New Year Lion Dance performance (preferably in person) to tap into the positive energy of many happy people.
  • Get an authentic Chinese Five Elements Feng Shui consultation that can help guide you to reach your highest potential personally and professionally in the upcoming Dragon year.  Time is of the essence to capitalize on the Dragon chi that could benefit you for years to come.

Energy-clearing rituals to do on February 3, 2012:

  • Do an energy clearing ritual that changes vibration of your space by using sage, incense, drums, bells or fire in a container at low energy meridian of the space according to authentic Chinese Five Elements Feng Shui, using a Feng Shui compass (Luo Pan).
  • Detox your space using energy-clearing prayers of the spiritual tradition you are aligned with.
  • Infuse sunlight and fresh air flow throughout the space.
  • Do a Sea Salt Bath or other spiritual cleansing Bath to wash off old and stressful energy from the ending Lunar cycle so that you’re open to receive the fresh new energy of the New Year.
  • Get a Life Reading by Master Pun Yin or Tin Sun Metaphysics on this day or prior to help you make the best strategy throughout the Year of the Dragon.

Test your luck in the Dragon Year:

If you are curious about your luck in the Year of the Dragon, you can measure it by trying to make eggs stand upright on a flat surface table around 6:22pm on 2/4 which is the official transitional time.  The wider side of the egg should be at the base, the more you can stand the higher your luck is, as long as you have good Feng Shui to complement it.  One can learn more about the significant of this ritual and how to do it properly by looking back in my website and blog about the event I held last year in Midtown Manhattan attended by the press and V.I.P. guests.

Helpful routines to stimulate and balance good energy throughout the Dragon year:

  • Find a location in the North or NorthEast direction near you that has some nature or landscaping that you can walk past every morning to put positive energy into your day.
  • Walk along the Hudson River or some other nature place where you can see the setting sun in the evening to release pressure that’s built up during the day.  This clears the slate so your evening can be happy.
  • Bring live or cut branches or flowers (never dried dead flowers) into your environment directly after one of the above actions to bring the positive energy with you into your space.
  • Do a sea-salt cleansing bath to reduce stress.

Things to be cautious about in 2012:

  • Avoid gatherings of large groups of people with destructive or negative energy because the energy can rub off on you.
  • Tune out from the news at night to clear and stabilize your energy for a good night’s sleep.

Bonus of Love to-do before February 4, 2012:

For an extra boost of positive energy, get an ideal companion who is always there for you emotionally.  Yes, before 2/4 2012, getting a dog during the Year of the Hare can bring you luck metaphysically since their correlation is beneficial according to the Chinese Zodiac system.

Veterinarian and bestselling author Dr. Allen M. Schoen, who pioneered the integration of holistic healing into animal health care and revolutionized the loving care of animals from humans validated this Chinese metaphysical suggestion.  His book Kindred Spirits encompassed findings about unconditional loving bound between humans and their pets that can increase the quality of life.  Dr. Schoen cautions though to make sure you have the right life style to have the right type of dog.  The wrong dog in a too hectic life could make life more stressful.

This is an unique piece of advice that merges ancient Chinese science of Feng Shui and Life Reading that has been followed for a couple of thousand years with a modern consciousness that relates with vibrational science humanity are more aware of now.

Adopting the right kind of dog before 2/4/12 could help boost happier energy for years to come and strongly recommended for people who live alone or have children who they can’t attend to enough.  This east meets west, old consciousness merges with new hopefully can bring more loving energy to the world in 2012 and beyond.

Lunar New Years Day and First Day of Spring

February 3rd, 2011 Lunar New Year Day

1.    Wake up in the new Lunar year and early in the day wish well to your family and people you know who you would meet today (at the minimum).  Traditionally, this greeting ritual last about 15 days.  Call or see your parents and in-laws to wish them good health and wellness in the new lunar cycle. Call people you care about throughout the day.

2.    Wear new clothes today (at a minimum, new undergarments).

3.    Start with good thoughts, relax mind and a grateful heart, then, approach your altar or the positive energy space of your home to do a prayer to tap into the divine energy that can grant you blessings.  Prayer and recite your wishes for this lunar new year, then, go about your day as if your wishes were already a reality so that your emotional state of mind feels contend, at peace and happy.  You need to set the tone with a positive mode that keeps your mind feeling confident, optimistic, motivated, inspired and empowered.

This is like the visualization that many spiritual people in the west already adapted, but, not quite yet synch with the lunar calendar transitional time that has greater affect on our emotional and energetic state.  (Being that the last Lunar Eclipse was a full moon and a Winter Solstice of 2010, it is ever more crucial for people who want good luck to do these 3 days of Good Luck Ritual to counteract the reduced energy overshadowing us).

4.    If there is no health concern, it is good to have the breakfast with sweets and concluding with sweet treat you already prepared for the lunar new year.  Ideally, it is best to be a vegetarian in this first meal and if possible, throughout the whole day and night.  If one wants mercy, it is good to be merciful first.

5.   Traditionally, red couplets with good luck theme would be pasted on doors facing outside and throughout the interior.  Red lantern is also put up by the entrance too.

6.    If time allows, visit a spiritual site to pay respects, do a prayer mentioning your wishes and how you would reciprocate to good causes by the end of the year of wishes granted)

7.    Maintain a positive energy field that is relaxed, kind and forgiving mentally.  Be positive in your manner and verbal exchange with people.  Don’t get upset or say negative things or words.

8.    Try to stay away from people who can trigger negative emotions or thoughts in you.

9.    Try to mingle and meet people who make you feel good and or that they are more blessed in your view of having good things.

10. Throughout the day, a relax mind usually enables good ideas to come through that you could initiate throughout the year.

11. Meditate or do gentle chi exercise (Tai Chi, Yoga) that regulates the energy flow within to create the balance that helps set the tone to the rest of the year.

12.   Don’t clean or throw things out or pour water on the ground, don’t use scissors or knives that cut energy (if possible), don’t write or mail checks.

2011 Lunar New Year 3-Day Luck-Changing Opportunities, Part 2 of 3

Vibrant colored flowers auspicious for the Lunar New Year

Feb 2, 2011 , the day before the Lunar New Year is as important a Chinese holiday as the day itself – as important as Thanksgiving is in the US for families getting together sharing an important meal together.  Here is a list of wonderful ways to celebrate and prepare for the change of energy in the renewal of the coming Spring and the new Rabbit cycle of 2011.  As many of these as you can do will heighten your appreciation and your luck in this cycle:

1.    In the afternoon, set time aside to have a prayer of gratitude to the protection and blessings of the previous year regardless of any challenge you had to face.  Pray for continuous or increased blessings.  A grateful heart is at peace which can channel positive energy in the coming year more easily.

2.    Prepare a tray with treats that consists of candies and other sweets to consume throughout the new year period.

3.    Keep your environment neat

4.     Have a reunion dinner with family, loved ones.  Close friends with whom you feel good can substitute if your blood relatives are too far away or if you don’t get along with family well.  This food should be a celebratory abundance of many things and traditionally consisting of fish as saying “having fish” in Chinese is a homonym (sounds the same as)  “having abundant harvest.”

5.    During dinner, the young pays respect to the elders to conclude the last cycle by wishing the elders good health, long life and fortune in the new year.

6.     Married elders would give a red envelope with money to the singles in the group or everyone for a more joyous all-inclusive fun.  Everyone who receives the red envelope places it under their pillow through the night symbolizing good luck & increased fortune carried over into the new year.

7.    Before 11pm, do a bathing ritual to release the old energy of the waning Tiger year.  Use your altar or a quiet spot in your home that you could connect with the divine energy to have a prayer of gratitude to the last cycle that is about to complete.  Pray and/or visualize the pressure and negative energy would be cleansed away during the bath.

8.     Prepare the bath with natural sea salt and 3 different vibrant colors of flower petals and submerge yourself from head to toe into the tub holding your breath for a few seconds at a time and repeat this step a few times, consciously releasing all the emotional, energetic, intellectual and physical challenges you have experienced throughout the Tiger year.

9.     Right before 11pm when the Lunar New Year about to begin (not midnight), light red candles at good luck positions according to Feng Shui to kick off the new year.  Traditionally, this red candle is then used to set off firecrackers which is hardly legal anymore in most cities – but the candles at the positive meridians in your home bring the good fortune as well.

Additional red candles can also be lit at lower energy spots of the space to lift the overall energy.  (Tip 1: Place the red candle centered in a hurricane glass candle shade to protect from drafts.  Follow Fire Department suggestions about never leaving candles unattended, and make sure to extinguish them before you go to bed.

(Tip 2, for added positive energy, at least three days prior to February 1st, place the new unlit candles where the sun can shine on them,  sprinkle drops of Blessed Holy Water from church or other methods in your spiritual belief system that can program positive energy into this new light which initiates a new cycle for you and your family).

The noise of the firecrackers represents Yang Chi that flushes out old, stagnant energy with a new boost of vibrant energy to receive the new year.  Nowadays, you could substitute this with ringing wind chime or banging a gong throughout your environment as you walk around making noise with it.  These objects should be of metal substance that has a high pitch with vibration that radiates.

10.  For those around you, say well wishes to them like “wishing you good health, happiness, wealth, good grades or whatever you know is good for the person receiving the blessings”.

11- Conclude the night with a prayer of gratitude for the divine blessings that enabled you to do this cleansing ritual and start fresh and blessed.  This could be at the altar or the quiet, positive energy spot of your home in accordance with Feng Shui.  Ideally, at this altar space, fresh vibrant color flowers, fruits and other offerings is already placed.

Our thoughts are powerful – as a person thinks so he or she becomes.  This belief or way of being is especially important in the Lunar new year.

12- Wear a new set of pajamas to bed on this night.

2011 Lunar New Year 3-Day Luck-Changing Opportunities, Part 1 of 3

Over the next few days I will be posting information on how to increase your luck

Beautiful and Auspicious Cherry Blossoms

in the upcoming Metal Rabbit year.  You have from now until the end of January to complete the first list of things to do.  Everything on this list will increase peace and harmony in the home (and office, if you’re preparing the business environment):

Feb 1st – Two Days before the Lunar New Year

1-Finish cleaning the environment top to bottom

2-Finish organizing the space & even files and closets

3-Pay February bills early as it is not auspicious to pay bills in the first few days of the Lunar New Year period

4-Finish cleaning your altar space or other spiritual symbols

5-Begin placing vibrant colored flowers and other uplifting objects at strategic Feng Shui locations in your space.  People are the products of their environment, and places that make people feel good increase positive interaction and outcome.

As part of this, placing Peach Blossom or Cherry Blossom in major meridian position of your environment to induce growth, vibrancy, wealth or even romance for the upcoming year.  If these flowers are not available in your area, substitute with vibrant color flowers (red, pink, orange, yellow, purple) rather than delicate or muted tones.
