Easy Ways to Refresh Your Space and Spirit for Spring

Bedroom night table no clutter, no electronics.

Bedroom night table no clutter, no electronics.

Spring is (almost) here! Let’s lighten and refresh our environments with a few easy actions that will also lighten and refresh our spirit!

Feng Shui Bedroom
Remove stacks of books or magazines from bedstands or night tables. Also, minimize the number of electronic devices plugged into the wall (computer, smartphone, alarm clock, TV). Each of these quick fixes will make the bedroom environment more restful.
To strengthen the restful nature of your bedroom even more, change the color/pattern of your bed linens to ones that are harmonious with your unique 5-Elements composition.

Reduce
Get rid of items in your home that you see on a daily basis, which have negative associations for you. For instance, something that was purchased at a difficult time in your life, or that reminds you of a relationship that went sour. Of course the smaller the object the easier, but do your best.

Engage the Senses
Bringing fresh air and sunlight into your home will refresh and engage the senses. Clean the windows, open them to let fresh air in. Open the doors between rooms to let air circulate. Play upbeat, positive and relaxing music while you’re making these changes. Use flowers, fruit and maybe even cookie-baking for naturally beautiful fragrance to waft through your home.

Noticing the Water/Fire Symbolism to Gain Insight this Snake Year

water_fire_symbolismPeople have been sharing with me the water/fire events that are happening in their lives right now – and how it’s leading them to think differently about the challenges this year is already bringing them. Leaks, faucets and water-appliances dripping or breaking. Lightbulbs, computers, other electronic gear breaking, burning out or otherwise causing problems, digestive problems (fire and water mix for this one), sleep problems (too active mind: fire – sluggishness, yin water).

All of these mundane challenges give us a chance to notice, detach and find a higher message in the symbolism. This is a year to be gentle and patient with ourselves and others – basically, not to get excited as that will only worsen things. It’s always the small stuff that tends to accumulate and overwhelm us and this year may pile up more and more smaller and smaller things until we feel like we cannot cope.

While ideally we take care of things in our lives before they accumulate – it will continue to be difficult to do so this year. Give yourself permission to rest and permission to let a few things slide a bit, while taking care of the most important issues (health) slowly, patiently and kindly.

Watchword for this Spring season: Kindess.

If you do not know your Five Elements Composition, it is time to find out so that you can learn how to use natural elements in your environment for healing and well-being. Learn What objects & colors to place around you for balancing your vibration, Which direction to face to reduce stress and charge up your own core energy. Using this knowledge is like building up your immune system through adjusting your visual and energy flow.

Your 5-Elements profile and how to use it is discussed during a Feng Shui consultation with an authentic 5-Elements Feng Shui master, which is still rare in the West.

The Tail of the Dragon (End of Dragon Year)

koi pond feng shui_smallEveryone I know was very glad to see 2012 end. But the end of the calendar year does not mean an end to the upheavals in weather, meteoric conditions, political strife, violence and shocks. The Dragon’s tail (end of the Dragon year) is barbed and can be brutal.

Meantime, the beginning of the Snake year (the Snake’s Head) zig zags and can change direction like lightning. This Snake year will pit fire against water – and we may feel the water in the pot growing agitated and hot this year. In other words, it is not going to be a respite from last year’s unsettled and unsettling conditions.

The Year of the Dragon doesn’t officially end until February 4, 2013 at 12:03am (same time in every time zone). During this transitionary period it is wise to be cautious. If possible build your reserves – and I mean that in every possible way: financially, personal energy, physically and even emergency supplies or other precautionary measures.

Ideally you are in a position to take some extra time now to rest and reflect. If not and your schedule is hectic, it is even more important to do so. From now until February 4th even the busiest must (for physical health) create a schedule in which every day you take at least 15 minutes to regulate your breathing at a calm, slow pace. Just after waking or before retiring at night are each good times for this. While being aware of the breath, notice that “time” is flow. One day a week spend an hour to take a walk in a park, look at a tree or even to calmly plan your schedule for the coming week in order to reduce stress.

These practices are healing to the mind and can help fight fatigue and anxiety that result from our own busy over-committed lives and the strife in the world.

In general now, do not over-commit. Base your decisions, wherever possible on having excess reserves in terms of financial and time conditions.

Preparing for Your New Year

Choose and energize your prayer beads for the New Year.

Choose and energize your prayer beads for the New Year.

As the days get shorter now in the Northern hemisphere heading towards the Winter Solstice it is a perfect time to recenter ourselves. Your luck and happiness in the New Year will depend on your ability to create and maintain a positive outlook. As we go within we realize the source of our happiness is not in the material objects around us, or even in the connection with our friends and family – but in our own attitudes, minds and hearts. The solstice is a powerful time to fine-tune our focus, purge our selfishness and find our gratitude and humility for the blessings that surround us. Make sure to get out in nature during daylight hours – if possible by woods or water to get an important solar charge and clear any mind-clutter. This is the best way to reduce fears and negative thinking we can get caught up in.

In this important week, find a beautiful river stone that easily fits in the palm of your hand, or a set of prayer beads. Rinse in cool water and leave them in a sunny window for a day to cleanse their energy and give them a solar charge. Now leave them by your desk and make sure to handle them on a daily basis while doing a brief positive-thinking meditation to begin to charge them with positivity for your New Year.

I will be giving more Feng Shui suggestions for your New Year in the next few posts.

Clearing our Inner Clutter with Nature Walks

Hudson River at sunset, nature in the city

In New York City we’re going to have perfect Spring weather all week. As Spring is the time to make the plans for your year, use this opportunity to clear the mind of the clutter of all our everyday concerns by getting out into nature. Sunrise and sunset are the most powerful, and there are parks in every borough and every part of town. If you know your Chinese 5 Elements composition you can go to your most positive element and direction. If not, use your intuition – Do you like to be among the trees, by the ocean or river? Go for it. At least 30 minutes out in the nature and we become more centered in our truest selves, and without struggle we can receive insights. Our mind slows down, our happiness increases. Take advantage of the powerful benefits of a 30-minute nature walk every day.

Lastly, since we are in the Dragon Year, purifying and crystalizing our positive thoughts and intentions will be beneficial beyond just this calendar year. We are in a new cycle and the clearing we do this year will keep giving us benefits of health, clarity and happiness throughout the 12-year cycle. In this Dragon year West direction is important to activate for many people. West represents the Metal direction in Feng Shui, the direction of creativity and clearing old energy and modes of thought. To take fullest advantage of this potentiality, if possible during your evening walk find a quiet place to sit where you can feel the light from the setting sun on your face. Specifically, let the sun land on the forehead. Free the mind by doing a gentle meditation in which you feel this warmth and light penetrate to the center of your being. The strong solar energy at sunset can release blockages, allowing the mind to open up, bringing opportunity for better or new ideas to old issues and challenges.

Happier New (Lunar) Year

There is an extra benefit available for loving and responsible people.  For an extra boost of positive energy bring an ideal companion into your home – one who will always be there for you emotionally.  Yes, before February 4, 2012 getting a dog during the Year of the Hare can bring you luck metaphysically since the Dog/Hare correlation is beneficial according to the Chinese Zodiac system.

Veterinarian and bestselling author Dr. Allen M. Schoen, who pioneered the integration of holistic healing into animal health care and revolutionized the loving care of animals from humans validated this Chinese metaphysical suggestion.  His book Kindred Spirits encompassed findings about unconditional loving bound between humans and their pets that can increase the quality of life.  Dr. Schoen cautions though to make sure you choose the right dog (breed) to harmonize with your life-style.  The wrong dog could make life more stressful for both person and dog.

This unique suggestion merges ancient Chinese science of Feng Shui and Life Reading that has been followed for a couple of thousand years with a modern consciousness that relates with vibrational science that humanity is more aware of than ever.

For the right kind of person adopting an appropriate dog before 2/4/12 can help boost happier energy for years to come.  Strongly recommended for people who live alone or have children who need more companionship.  This East-meets-West, old consciousness merging with new hopefully can bring more loving energy to the world in 2012 and beyond.

Further details about Dr. Allen M. Schoen can be found at his website www.kindredspiritsproject.com

A caution: bringing a dog into one’s household should only be done if you’re willing and able to provide a consistently loving and nurturing home.  If you aren’t absolutely positive that you can be responsible for a dog’s well-being then it is better not to do so.

Year of the Water Dragon 2012 Feng Shui Energy Tips

These energy tips are for all, but especially for the people of my beloved city, New York. As the song goes “if I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere…” New York City attracts the most driven and high-spirited people from around the country and the world trying to achieve their highest aspirations. For this reason, a lot of the people here feel great pressure all the time and are unable to relax or recharge as easily.

The Year of the (Water) Dragon that begins February 4, 2012 is a critical inflection point in the transitional cycle of humanity. So especially at this time, anyone who is serious about bouncing back or achieving their goals should tap into Chinese Five Elements Feng Shui energy techniques to create inner balance that can elevate positive energy and vibration, thereby opening the way to achievement of one’s higher goals.

If you were born in the year of the Hare or Dog, you need to be more careful to avoid accidents –  be extra cautious of any risky physical activities.  Any big moves that affect your financial portfolio should be discussed with wise counsel while applying a conservative attitude.

Things to do starting now and continuing through February 4th 2012:

  • Visit a spiritual place to reflect and set new goals in the Lunar New Year with a grateful heart, regardless of your current circumstances.  A humble and peaceful heart can connect to the Divine while a frightened or angry heart cannot – set yourself on the correct path.
  • Do some charity work and donation, especially during the Lunar New Year period – open the channel for the flow of prosperity.
  • Watch a Lunar New Year Lion Dance performance (preferably in person) to tap into the positive energy of many happy people.
  • Get an authentic Chinese Five Elements Feng Shui consultation that can help guide you to reach your highest potential personally and professionally in the upcoming Dragon year.  Time is of the essence to capitalize on the Dragon chi that could benefit you for years to come.

Energy-clearing rituals to do on February 3, 2012:

  • Do an energy clearing ritual that changes vibration of your space by using sage, incense, drums, bells or fire in a container at low energy meridian of the space according to authentic Chinese Five Elements Feng Shui, using a Feng Shui compass (Luo Pan).
  • Detox your space using energy-clearing prayers of the spiritual tradition you are aligned with.
  • Infuse sunlight and fresh air flow throughout the space.
  • Do a Sea Salt Bath or other spiritual cleansing Bath to wash off old and stressful energy from the ending Lunar cycle so that you’re open to receive the fresh new energy of the New Year.
  • Get a Life Reading by Master Pun Yin or Tin Sun Metaphysics on this day or prior to help you make the best strategy throughout the Year of the Dragon.

Test your luck in the Dragon Year:

If you are curious about your luck in the Year of the Dragon, you can measure it by trying to make eggs stand upright on a flat surface table around 6:22pm on 2/4 which is the official transitional time.  The wider side of the egg should be at the base, the more you can stand the higher your luck is, as long as you have good Feng Shui to complement it.  One can learn more about the significant of this ritual and how to do it properly by looking back in my website and blog about the event I held last year in Midtown Manhattan attended by the press and V.I.P. guests.

Helpful routines to stimulate and balance good energy throughout the Dragon year:

  • Find a location in the North or NorthEast direction near you that has some nature or landscaping that you can walk past every morning to put positive energy into your day.
  • Walk along the Hudson River or some other nature place where you can see the setting sun in the evening to release pressure that’s built up during the day.  This clears the slate so your evening can be happy.
  • Bring live or cut branches or flowers (never dried dead flowers) into your environment directly after one of the above actions to bring the positive energy with you into your space.
  • Do a sea-salt cleansing bath to reduce stress.

Things to be cautious about in 2012:

  • Avoid gatherings of large groups of people with destructive or negative energy because the energy can rub off on you.
  • Tune out from the news at night to clear and stabilize your energy for a good night’s sleep.

Bonus of Love to-do before February 4, 2012:

For an extra boost of positive energy, get an ideal companion who is always there for you emotionally.  Yes, before 2/4 2012, getting a dog during the Year of the Hare can bring you luck metaphysically since their correlation is beneficial according to the Chinese Zodiac system.

Dr. Schoen cautions though to make sure you have the right life style to have the right type of dog.  The wrong dog in a too hectic life could make life more stressful.

This is an unique piece of advice that merges ancient Chinese science of Feng Shui and Life Reading that has been followed for a couple of thousand years with a modern consciousness that relates with vibrational science humanity are more aware of now.

Adopting the right kind of dog before 2/4/12 could help boost happier energy for years to come and strongly recommended for people who live alone or have children who they can’t attend to enough.  This east meets west, old consciousness merges with new hopefully can bring more loving energy to the world in 2012 and beyond.
